Crossing the mountain

Crossing the mountains,
Spreading across the sky;
That day the distant birdsong;
Petals of the mountain cherry

Commentary

The wind comes over the mountain and carries across the sky. The day the wind brings with it the sound of birdsong it scatters into the air the petals of the mountain cherry.

The poet describes how he hears the sound of the wind and sees the petals of the mountain cherry tree scattered into the wind. Bokusui’s vision of the petals of the mountain cherry he remembers from his birthplace are drawn freshly right before our eyes.
