Commentary

My fate is to be an orphan from this world. When I am looking at the sea for reasons I cannot understand tears well up inside me. At that time I can only smile, and cry.

Background

After graduation Bokusui stayed in Tokyo rather than returning to his home town, struggling to live as a writer. In doing so he betrayed the hopes of his parents. As such he was an orphan.
