山を見よ
山に日は照る
海を見よ

いざ唇を君

やまをみよ
やまにひはてる
うみをみよ

いざくちをきみ

Commentary

Look at the mountains and see how the green of the trees shines in the sunlight. Look at the sea. See how the sun shines so brightly off the sea. Now, place your lips on mine.

Background

Similar to “The Sea Not Moving” this poem was written to Sonada Soneko while the couple stayed in the Nemoto Coast in Chiba. Bokusui wrote to his friend at that time that the sea had become the home of his spirit and by implication his inspiration
