Stare not only at the sea

Somehow
Like one made dumb
You have become silent.
Stare not only at the sea.
Let not the sea steal you from me.

Background

I don’t know why but you have become silent, like a person who doesn’t even have a mouth! Don’t just stare so long at the sea like that. Has it taken you away?

Commentary

This poem was also written by Bokusui to his first love while they stayed at on the Nemoto Coast in southern Chiba. Soneko stares wordlessly at the sea instead of at him and Bokusui becomes ever more jealous.
